Intervention Programs
Dorsey High School’s Special Education Department offers two programs:
- RSP (Resource Specialist Program)
- SDP (Special Day Program)
The RSP provides consultative and collaborative services with general education department to facilitate the accommodations are on each IEP (Individual Education Program). Resource also provide directed services to those students requiring additional support. These Resource teachers teach a class called Developing Reading in the Content Areas. This class teaches strategies resource students access the content area (i.e. Math, science, English etc.).
The SDP provides the following four programs:
- SLD (Specific Learning Disability)
- Autism
- Mental Retardation
- CBI (Community Base Instruction)
All of the students in the SDP are taught by special education teachers.
SLD - these students are taught core curriculum by special education teachers; electives are in the general education classroom.
Autism students are in a self-contained classroom with a special education teacher for approximately 83% of the time. Some autism students may have physical education and electives in general education classrooms (depends on the degree of disability).
CBI - these students are in a self-contained classroom, and receive physical education services from a special education PE teacher (Adaptive PE). CBI students integrate with the general education population for assemblies, sports events and lunch.
Dorsey is proud to be a school for all children!
